Hey. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I kind of just wanted it to be an open discussion amongst the server. I know there are a few threads on these forums that tackle concerns and criticisms and point out problems players have with BuildCraftia, and I don’t want this thread to be one of those. Those kinds of threads have led to a lot of pointless arguments with no real conclusions, and it probably rips into the developers feelings.... But I really do want to know if BuildCraftia will be viable to keep existing over the next few years? BuildCraftia would never have gotten anywhere without its various developers and advertisers. To be blunt, MacMeBenny did not have the expansive creativity and ingenuity to have gotten this far on his own. He probably would have shut it down in 2017 had he not been booted. It’s very cool that AZZA and Quicksteve have stuck around to pick up what the original owner had abandoned. But it feels like Leo and AZZA have gotten very busy in their lives, particularly Leo. It is important that Leo cares tends to his family and AZZA runs his photography business. Prioritizing these responsibilities over the server is 100% understandable and is nothing to be outraged over. But it doesn’t seem like the passion to further develop BuildCraftia really exists anymore.. I see AZZA online occasionally, but he always seems frustrated and burdened to have to fix commands and perms that break and I have honestly only seen Quicksteve one time during 2020. I’m told he does a lot of behind the scenes stuff, but I’m not sure what that even entails. Broken commands have been getting fixed (at a significantly better rate than 2 or 3 years ago), so there is obviously beneficial work being put into server functions. My concerns are not with BC itself. I feel like Quicksteve and AZZA have put in their best efforts in keeping the BC running, but they seriously might need relief from this server. I feel like them trying to continue to work on MacMeBennys dumb little project has become a more of a chore after his departure. This obligation to keep Buildcraftia running may be restricting the owners from doing things that they want to do in their life. I enjoy BC, but not at the expense of these grown men with responsibilities being burdened by its upkeep. I really would want the owners to read through this and maybe engage. I could be completely wrong and working on the server might be a fun hobby for the owners. It would really help if some light could be shined upon my worries. <3 NapkinDabber
Well I don't have much to say, really. I haven't lost interest in updating or maintaining the server. I've planned to keep improving and developing the server. Development has been slow in the past year or so but I've gained a lot of motivation lately because of the raising player count. For me it's the community, friends and it's kind of a hobby for me. A nice counterbalance for my daily job. Something and somewhere I can get my mind off daily struggles and challenges, somewhere I can meet friends and somewhere we can "make the world better" in a way. I think that's what BuildCraftia is most of you as well. Most of the time it's my knowledge (or the lack of) that restricts what I'm personally able to achieve with coding and server administration in general. But I'm learning new things every day and I am happy about small achievements I can do every day. Which really sums up my motto: "You learn something new every day!". The pandemic for sure hasn't been helping with schedule and I've done everything I can to keep my business running and profitable. I am almost back to the point where I don't have to worry about the finances daily. But photography business seems to be getting on its feet again and starting to become more enjoyable than a burden. This leaves me with more free time, more time to work on my hobbies, including the server. TLDR; As long as we have this nice community, players, friends and monetisation I have no reason to stop developing or hosting this server.
I also wanted to add that if anyone wants to contribute or work on stuff, speak up! I showed a mild interest in working on the code 7 months ago and Azza gave me full access to the code base.
