I'm going to be completely honest here... I'm kind of split on these changes. While these changes are necessary (due to the EULA mojang crap), I'm not entirely sure that the reputation system is really a good solution to this issue. This reputation thing was proposed to us as staff about a little over a year ago (right before the great resignation). While it is a very unique and creative idea in theory, I feel that it may screw up the plotting system and punishment system. Furthermor, the idea that you loose points for being inactive I don't really support. Anyone really who has to leave the server, whether their fault or not, should not be peanalized for being inactive by loosing points. The points I think, should really be on the basis of "once you get them, they are yours", until such cases as a punishment. Once a player earns something, they should be allowed to keep it. Conversely, a player could easily bypass this reputation system regarding rewards by just logging online for a quick few seconds each day, then leaving. This allows them to get said reputation without even playing on the server. A good solution o this would be something along the lines of requiring a player to be online a set amount of time each day/week (whatever it goes by), for them to get their reputation. This makes a player truly earn their reward, and not bypass it. Furthermore, it is a little unclear how bans and mutes will be affected by this. While it's a little easier for bans (banned, you just wait for your reputation to be regenerated), mutes are far more unclear. If you get a mute, it will obviously hamper your reputation but will that result in a ban? IE: you get a 4 day mute, will your reputation drop to -40 and you will also be banned? I'm sure probably missing the obvious here, but yeee. On the survival front, the small changes in removing claim blocks and coins from the store I'm fine with. That's necessary and doesn't really hamper gameplay. The minigames I am quite pleased with. The idea of having "donor kits" is the exact thing that made minigames on most servers unbalanced. It was basically pay to win. Changing this to a universal currency in which all players of every rank have a chance to get a kit is very good, and hopefully, will make people happy. So TLDR: I like the changes to survival and the minigames, but I'm not a big fan of this reputation system. Despite this though, I give cudos to the staff for working to make this happen, and hopefully all these changes will happen smoothly and efficiently (Not a trait BC is best at, but still). Anyways, cya guys.
This doesn't affect the punishments a lot, really. All the features that are currently in the punishing system are in the reputation system. Temporary bans, permanent bans, mutes and warnings. The two latter lower your reputation with some points but do not ban you entirely from the server. And while you are muted, you earn only half the points you would regularly (5 instead of 10) if the mute lasts for longer than 24 hours. All the functions will all be there, but the execution will be slightly different. I see where you are coming from for this matter. We have to find a way for situations like family issues and other kinds of things. But as Miner said: I for sure hope these kinds of things (family issues, exams et cetera) happen rarely, maybe once or twice in a year. So, if you are offline for three weeks twice a year, that's only two week's worth of reputation lost per year. Of course, if the player can keep their perks, it'll increase the chance of them getting back to the server. We'll have to see what the rest of the community thinks about this. Thanks for your opinion, though We saw this problem coming, and we're prepared for this kind of thing. Maybe we'll make a system that requires, let's say, 30 minutes of gameplay before you earn your 10 reputation for that day. Of course being AFK doing nothing does not count as online time.
These points are not points people, its reputation. Reputation is defined as In my mind, it only makes sense to decrease reputation as you become less known when less active. A player could easily earn $15 per month to get a rank upgrade by taking the time to vote (~30 seconds), but that's also too much. Doing this every day still requires effort; the player cares about his reputation apparently. This also means he/she will be likely to return, why spend the effort otherwise? EDIT: GG I wanted to post this like 4 hours ago. Good job.
I like this idea a lot, as it rewards dedication & loyalty, so you don't necessarily have to donate to get the full experience. I do wonder what knock-on effect this will have on donations though, because at the end of the day, it's not cheap running BuildCraftia, and donations are what keep the server alive... Post-exams, I'll be on everyday building up that reputation tho
I think this would actually be a better idea, but you can also gain them back, Say you get a mute or something, (and you get 100 points) and you get -50 points. Then if you play for 5 days (or how many necessary to get them back) You get back to 100? I'm not really sure and i'm kinda stupid but i think Jeremy's idea should at least be considered
Me too. I was a bit annoyed before on my last post on this thread, lol Maybe instead of freezing, if you leave for a while, you return to the game and a small text in chat says Welcome back <playername>! It has been <#ofdays> since you last played on BuildCraftia! Then there would be a thing you click, and you write the reason for being away. It would be reviewed and if approved, you regain the points you lost!
Okay, why the sudden hostility? It was literally just a joke. P.S. At least I'm TRYING to not start fights. Over the past 2 weeks, I've only been in 1.
