In the table of elements, Fe stands for Ferus, which is Latin for sword or iron. In this case, it is iron. Ferus is male because of it's -us ending.

What are you confused about indeed?
Ferus, and thus the chemical symbol 'Fe' is male. It is simply so.

How does "Ferus" and "Fe" represent masculinity. If he's part of the iron horde, that makes him a FeMale.

    It's simple.
Fe stands for Ferus. Ferus is a latin word. In Latin, Ferus is masculine.
Thus, the chemical symbol Fe is masculine too, as it is simply a shortening of Ferus.

Ah, I confused it with ferus, which means 'beastly' , apparently.

    I didn't know that.
