Things broke, I fixed them, server back up. Regarding why shit isn't happening: the problem is pretty much a lack of motivation. The staff chat is at an all times low in activity and I'm just having a lot going on in real life at the moment so my ontime is not the greatest. It's clear why AZZA isn't on and regarding Jessie I feel like it's the same case of not really being motivated. This is also the reason why the paintball update, despite being mostly finished, hasn't been pushed to the server and also the reason domination is not done (actually with paintball it's my fault and domination I need a lobby to release it). Additionally, I feel like we've made a few bad decisions: kit selection is only possible in the lobbies (working on fixing that) and then the fact that after a game ends you don't go to another game server but back to the lobby; these are some points that need to be addressed. Furthermore concerning factions: it is indeed Jessie's project, and bare factions are setup, but the server pretty much has been doing nothing since months. We have some plugins setup on it, but we feel like it will meet the same faith as all the other new servers; a few days of hype and then nothing. This is a problem in general as was mentioned already: there's no real goal on the server and often you simply get bored. This also needs to be fixed, but I really don't know how.

Well thanks for reading random thoughts from my brain I guess, this is just some thoughts on the matter :penguin:

I'd be willing to help Jessie with factions if she's having trouble with ontime to do things.

    Well...
TIME TO INCREASE PRODUCTION SPEED ON ANIMATIONS

But in all seriousness, I believe the biggest problem is the fact that work is not distributed well.
We could fix that by ...

    1. Distribute work on things like servers not only to Admins or Owners but also to Moderators ; everybody should get their hands dirty.
    2. New developer. Seriously. I know Leo might not like this, but it is needed. You might know AlexH or CodeChimp and I still have him as contact on both Steam & Skype (he's a friend). Of course, there are probably other options available.

Regarding Code Chimp, no offense but I've seen his code and would rather puke then give him access to the code. The truth is: most developers will not do the job for free and most of those willing to help would not really help but create more work. (I'm not saying that there are no competent developers out there which dedicate their time to projects earning them no profit, because there are many, but it's hard to find one).

    Oh well.
Anyway, my point was, there are many people who want to help (not in coding though as noone knows Java here) but can't really.

I agree with what you say in terms of the server having somewhat stagnated over the past few months, but I for one would like to point out that I've seen so many more new players join BuildCraftia recently, day after day. I think us all voting has helped a lot (and I encourage everyone to continue doing it; I know I myself forget a lot  ), but I agree with Dusty that the problem is maintaining players, i.e. giving them a reason to come back. And to be perfectly honest, I don't know how we can solve this apart from just continuing what we're already doing. Most of the playerbase is, as you say, almost entirely donators, veterans & staff.

Obviously I won't comment on factions but me & Leo have been working on Mega Parkour for about a solid month. There's still a lot to do however, in terms of the plugins and actually building the thing. I like to think that we've made substantial progress with this but it's slowed down recently (due to the fact that I'm back at sixth form, and Leo has a real-life family to care for :p ).

Additionally, my exams start very soon (and I have things such as music recitals in literally a few weeks), as do they for many other staff/users. Further still, from the 6th March to the 12th I'll be away all week on a study trip to Washington D.C. (absolutely f*cking buzzing btw :D ).

I think the lack of server popularity also coincides with the fact that most minecrafters play on the huge networks (Hypixel, Mineplex etc.) more than they ever have done before. I feel like our opportunity to really get out there was in the pre-Arcadia period (which we did tbf: 100+ players on a sole creative server, with plans to expand) but the damage that Arcadia caused was insanely huge.

I'm not going on about Arcadia because I think it's important we move on. I propose our best bet would be to wait for the summer - when we're all more likely to be free - and see what we can do. I somewhat resent having to say this because we've had to do a great deal of waiting as it is, but I doubt we can make any significant changes/additions from around April to mid-June, because it's a very busy time of year for a lot of people. It'll take effort from both staff and players.

The server ain't dying, but there's nothing to stop it from dying in the not-too-distant future.

I think another thing that we need to recognize is that word of mouth simply won't help us grow fast enough. We need much better advertising. I know this cost a shit-ton of money but at the same time, if we are to get money from new donors/people in the future, we need to first get those players.

TLDR: We need to spend money to make money/new players

Wasn't staff chat like, "400+ messages" weekly like 5 months ago? idk that's from what I remember when I was staff

Stuff has changed since then, when I was still staff it would only be a few messages a week.

I agree that advertising plays a part but it can cost so much money to do so if done effectively.

Getting on the 'Sponsored Servers' list on minecraftservers.org for example can cost thousands of £'s / €'s / $'s, last time I saw (but that was roughly a few months ago).

With no intention of advertising, MCProHosting (our former hosts in the very old days) have some useful links on their site in terms of places to advertise (although I believe we're on a few of these already): https://clients.mcprohosting.com/knowledgebase/199/Advertising-your-server.html

BuildCraftia does not offer refunds of any kind, for whatever reason including the removal of server or plugins providing a service, save where, within a 72 hour period following purchase, BuildCraftia fails to provide the Goods as described on the web shop page. In this, and only in this case the purchaser has the right to claim a refund from BuildCraftia.

There you go. You had to agree to it when you made a purchase.

Necropost, but I agree. If we don't update to 1.9 fast, BC will crumble.

Those plugin devs better hurry up.
