I don't think that's necessary on the small server that we are. As Phoenix has said, there is just no need for us to be so formal. I would prefer some one on one mentoring program with staff but even that is pushing it.
Maybe for once, we need formality? I mean, we all know there's been this sort of "empty" feeling ever since Arcadia left, like something was missing, try having some formality? I mean, I love formality. -cough- REO Thread -cough-
Let me pitch an idea: A Staff Executive Board. That sounds really fancy and showoff-ish but honestly I see it as a way to maintain contact with experienced players while combining it with a young, active staff team. A Staff Exec Board would contain all Retired Staff (and MVPs / Penguins? ) - one of whom would be 'in-charge' of sorts (but not with power exceeding a Mod) - in addition to a couple people from the administrative team. It should be mainly for Retired Staff to hold the main staff body to account, and to work with staff on how to progress the server, if they lack the time to come online regularly. Of course, everyone's suggestions are welcome but it's the job of the Exec to put those points forward. Is this my idea to keep power for all the inactive people? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. The Exec wouldn't necessarily have any server power; think about the UK Parliament - Staff are the House of Commons (who have the actual power), Exec are the House of Lords (who don't have server-wide power but maintain accountability). That might not make sense for non-Brits but anyway... To be honest, alot of us have committed huge amounts of time to the server and we want to stay in contact with it. I accept full staff commands are not necessary. But I think many of the Retired Staff can make much more informed decisions than many of the newer staff (and that's not me slagging anyone off: it's a matter of experience). My only worry is that an Exec would be seen as a harassment and their opinions would be ignored. But no-one's stepping up and I believe we all need to step up, not just one person. Disagreements are welcome. (And I may edit this post after a while because I'm typing this in a rush before dinner xD ).
Great Idea. I feel like some systematical formation is necessary to really make ideas reality. I think it's a brilliant idea to use the system that Parliament uses and I think we should have a possible forum application to promote players, not to an entirely new rank, to part of a team that reviews new ideas and what the community wants, then forwards it to the Staff board. Essentially, the 'Staff Executive Board' would be a Community Managing Team (I'd like to note Matty's role prior to this, I think I am in agreement with @Dusty and @Alatus that he was excellent at community managing). However, I can see how players promoted to enrol in this board may take it and believe they're higher than anyone else. I suppose, if it were application based, the player would have to be well-known and I don't think there should be a vote for members; the staff team should decide on participants.
AAAAUAIAAUGGGHHAGAU this server is always gonna be questioning staffs capability regardless of how well it ran. There is no true solution cause everyone has opposing opinion and knowledge aaahhhahahu
Im just laughing at the things people are saying "Staff don't need to be so formal" When I was staff I couldn't crack a single joke it was "informal" the admins like the put it, so now you don't have to? Make up that mind guys Also I like Phoenix's idea, Non-staff - Retired staff have a say because some of the mods really don't make sense %60 of the time, but then there is rarely anyone on to have this all set up, BC is small and it will just get boring and blah blah remove it like helper blah blah I cant be fucked to write anymore
y'all should focus on, you now, making sure this server doesn't die somehow. Because right now, it is. Anyways, what do I have to say, barely come on any more heh.
My opinions lie with Phoenix, ill leave it as simply as that b/c I'm crap at stating my opinions but Phoenix is stating exactly what I'm thinking so ye
I agree with this. As a retired staff, I can feel that cold shoulder from the staff, but all in good faith. I mean, I was a staff member at once, and I still retain that knowledge. I can/could help out on this "Executive Board"
