So many of you have been curious of where I've been since summer basically ended in the end of August. I've been caught up in band and school to the point of where I literally can't be home for 12 hours without having school or band to attend. I'm not sure how long it'll be until I eventually give out on BC, which I have no plans of doing, but I fear may happen. I don't see things on BC getting better until around December. This post is just to let you guys know where I've been, and now I need to state opinions, that seems to be a 'quitting' tradition, and even though I'm not quitting, in my WordWorld news post, I promised to always give my honest opinions, so here we go. API: Finally, it's entering what appears to be an early early beta phase. It looks like RedstoneLamps work better now, along with mail, the owners finally got /pet working recently, and DTC 3.0 is coming out very soon, along with Parkour [Or paintball, I forgot]. I would like to say, good job Leo, it's looking great so far. Staff: Currently, we have 5 moderators, 3 admins, and 3 owners. I feel like moderator nomination will reopen soon, which is cool. Ever since Jere made a huge rant about how staff is sort-of bias [Could've been another person, I apologize if this is wrong], and since then, the staff has suddenly become friendlier. I used to feel like if I wanted to be friends with staff, I'd have to had kn0wn them for a while before mod noms or apps. I felt like I could never get a person-to-person connection, rather then a member-to-staff connection. Now, I feel like we could hold that friendship on a person-to-person level, and brand-new members are valued even more. Voting: This has always been a tough subject. Considering my rank [Penguin] gets 90% of the perks, and I've never been on BC has a member with voting, I don't personally know what it's like. But honestly, some of the perks I feel like, are stupid. Now, the EditSign is cool, along with /PickUp and /Compliment, but honestly, I dislick how people can simply vote to get some of the perks that people 'donated' $150+ for. I understand how staff always says "You don't donate for perks, you donate for fun" or something, so view it from this standpoint: If you could get most perks for basically free [Since voting doesn't cost money], why would people donate? Yet again, I understand people donate for the sake of it, but who are we fooling. I would never have bought a rank if I could've gotten WorldEdit for free [With voting]. So heres what I personally suggest: -Remove the 'Welcome Message' and 'Access to /Gamemode' from the temporary vote shop. -Add a custom forums nametag labeled 'Voter' [Such as I have penguin, people have Retired Staff, Admin, Moderator, etc] -Add more plots, for example, if you save 500 vote points, you get 5 more plots. Once again my opinions, my rant. ~Goooooodbye~
First off, paintball AND parkour should be coming out any time now. The coding for both of them has been completed and they just need maps added. Secondly, your comment about "staff being friendlier since the rant.", I personally I haven't changed whatsoever since the rant, I've always tried to be friendly. And yes I agree that I'm not always the most friendliest person in the world, and I have no excuses for not being so, I always try to be as "friendly" as possible to everyone. And you might say "But oh, Dusty, calling people skrubs isn't being friendly." And yeah, for some people that wouldn't be considered nice or friendly, but I tease people who I know can take it and it's my odd way of showing friendship. And as for the whole donating thing, yes there are a lot of perks given in /voteshop, but you seem to forget that you have all those perks PERMANTLY! If members or even lower ranked donators want these perks, they have to go through the process everytime just to get them. And as far as WorldEdit is concerned, it's very basic WorldEdit. It's just //set. And yes, there is //naturalize (I believe that's what the command is), but no donators get that command, so it is there to encourage EVERYONE to vote for the server, since it really helps the server out. But nonetheless, I hope school and band go well for you!
I understand that the perks are "Permanent" but think of it like this: if someone donated everyday, that's easily 80 vote points. This can get you Gamemode (5 points), Thru (10 points), Vanish (5 points) and Join Message (50 points) for just under 80 vote points, and if you repeat it everyday, it acts as if it IS a permanent perk.
Your forgetting the fact that donators have a ton more features that are worth more then 80 vote points And also the fact that voting daily is probably even more supportive then donating, say, 35 euros once.
Here is my answer to the voting, because it is setup by me. Voting helps to bring new players to the server. For us, it is the cheapest method, since we can give players perks from voting. Therefore, this requires no money from our side. Advertising is overpriced nowadays because the competition between servers is getting bigger and bigger every day. One day of advertising in an effective place costs around $50 and up. And, to be honest, I haven't seen a slightest decrease in donating after the voting perks came to be, vice versa we are getting donations more than ever. I admit, there might be something we can make better in voting, considering their price. Join message for a day means you have to vote 5 times a day. And that is only one feature. Donators who have donated for a join message, this meaning penguins, have hundreds of other features these voters do not have. If you buy the join message for a day, you can get only 1,5 hours of WorldEdit going with that. After that you've already ran out of points. And what do donators get? A lot more and that's my point. Giving voters a few perks that some donators have doesn't make the donator ranks useless. If you have questions about voting, please contact me and we can discuss about the subject.
