She was going to make up for all the sacrifices Dipper had to make. I have no idea why there are those little marks or why Mabel is counting. I think Mabel is counting because just like that, Dipper is dead. I think the markings is light reflected off of upcoming objects Dipper is about to discover. There you go, that's what this whole comic thing means.

Mabel (the girl) wanted to make up for all the sacrifices Dipper (the guy) had to make for her, along with the pool thing and other stuff that isn't mentioned. But Dipper still loved her sister and cared for her. After Mabel and Dipper graduated high school, she was planning on paying Dipper back. Dipper went to Gravity Falls to study the creatures but was killed by possibly Bill Cipher. Mabel is now depressed.
This is kind of like me and remmi. I sacrifice my dignity for her love and I get bullied all the time and no love and I'm sad always.
