Let me spin you a tale in classic BuildCraftia... Let's settle something first: This was a mingiame! I enjoy making games that are open to as many people as possible, that's why I work on parkour as well as PvP for the non-VIP+'s. Ever since I started making a few games, there was this new wave of minigame creations, which was fantastic! But to be fair, you always had to out-do your opponents So I started work on a new version of the WaterBattle mingiame I had successfully created with ChazKaz. The game had gone through 3 editions at this point in time, and we needed to think outside the box. It was a game that hadn't been seen before on BuildCraftia so people were looking forward to it. The only problem was, it was unplayable xD Basically, the idea was that we create the largest vanilla minigame ever created on BuildCraftia. The new WaterBattle 4.0 would take up 2 entire plots (1 plot dedicated entirely to the battle itself) and could house up to 64 players in one single game. It was huge! The only problem was the mindblowing, server-crashing, rage-inducing lag that followed whenever the game was activated. WaterBattle is where players fight each other in waterfalls, that slowly get smaller. This required pistons to cut off the waterfalls. When they were activated, it caused intense lag that would happen over a long period of time. Although I was proud - along with Chaz - to have created such a huge game, I wasn't exactly happy at the fact that I crashed the server. Multiple times. In the BuildCraftia-Arcadia-BuildCraftia transmission, the game was lost (thank the Lord!), but I recently found a few images of the game in my screenshots folder! The captions are underneath each photo. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The 'scaffolding' and basic planned structure of the starting platforms, at ground level. This was later raised up to near-enough the sky limit. The basic framework of the starting platforms created, looking at it from the inside. Some pistons have already been installed. Outside look of the basic framework. The lower pistons have been installed and work has began on the waterfall pistons. All of the waterfall pistons installed on the top (you can see how huge this project was!). Commence the redstone nightmare... Early work on the WaterBattle Village, which took up the other plot. This contained special buildings containing info plaques such as the Changelog; the Leaderboard for no. of wins; the plot helpers and builders & the WaterBattle café (which was made more-or-less to fill space ) Upwards shot showing how the waterfalls were finally being put in. The finished WaterBattle Village, along with the finished waterfalls! (It was very dark when you're in the middle of all the waterfalls). The Lag Machine in all its glory xD A further backwards look at the starting platform in the sky. The redstone completed! This was one of the most challenging redstone work I ever undertook. The idea was simple, as you just had to link up the pistons. But fitting it in the space without letting wires mix was absolute agony I eventually had to close it and disable the redstone so that nobody else could activate it, after the crashes. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Overall, it was a huge technical achievement and I was proud of the end result. The idea hadn't been done before; even though it was disastrous, it was still quite funny...
Not sure that is something to be proud of.... And I remember many of your games, Phoenix... many of which I failed at.. *cough* Parkour race *cough* I would like to think I'm somewhat better at these games now... but in reality I'm probably not.
He was the dev on the old bc, was going to do dtc 2.0 (about 2 years ago) and never really finished it. Now is codechimp
Wow. This proves how much I was on Arcadia. Once Arcadia hit, I was like "I think I'll be on Netflix instead"
Yeah good old Alex. He was my friend. Did you know he was on a coding panel at some popular con recently? It was Insomnia I believe
Yeah the screenshot was from when I was talking to Alex about the new DTC I think, and the files had been corrupted or lost or something (I was like 'no big deal,' sarcastically of course )
