Some questions for the helper apps.

Today I am going to throw out my *very serious voice* and question/talk about the helper apps. Staff can say anything they want to to this.

Age : So first of all, I will be questioning the 'Age' section of the helper apps. Now I can already hear the staff (I'm talking to you Matty & Azza) saying: "God, not this again. Fok u Olo." And you're right. I myself am under aged for the helper apps, and I have noticed that everyone which had an age under 13 was denied. (Even lewis1max which was turning 13 in December). So what I'm saying is : "Does this really need to be like this?" What you don't get is that there are quite a large number of people on BC which appeared to be 14 or even 16 in some cases, but were in reality 11 or 12. I think the word 'appearing' already seems enough, since maturity is not always in link to age. (At least in these cases.) And I think a number of staff may agree with me here. CodeChimp (AlexHH25, previous developer for BC) was quite amazed and thought I was 15 when I told him I was 11.

But off from the age thingy and on to more stuff.

How many staff applications have you made before?
Honestly, I don't think this matters that much, since almost all people follow Matty's Tips on how to make a Professional Helper App. Also, regarding that thread, I think it's a bit of a cheat to make that there, since then you can get easily accepted if you just add some more words yourself.

When did you first play Minecraft?
As with the previous, I don't think this matters too much. I joined in 2010/2011 and I think I would get the same results if I said something like 2012. But what the real question is is : "How much experience do you have with Minecraft (Any experience from moderating to building, etc)?" I think this is what they are trying to say instead of 'When did you first play Minecraft?'. It will have to be a more detailed section of the helper app. Now staff may think : "We already have a question for that : What is your previous experience in any type of moderation?". Now , let me explain this with an
Example :

When did you first play Minecraft?
I joined in October 2010.
How much experience do you have with Minecraft? (Any experience from moderating to building, etc.)
I've had a large experience with Minecraft.
I have played on a very large number of servers, both public , private, popular,unpopular...
I also have quite a big experience with building and creating unique minigames.
I have also owned a couple of home servers.They were private servers for me and my friends, even though I did have to ban some people. That is about my experience with moderating.
What is your previous experience in any type of moderation?

Have you ever been banned or temp banned on another server?
First of all, I have seen a lot of people actually saying that they were tempbanned or banned on Buildcraftia, not on 'another server.' Also, I do not think this matters too much if the ban was made by immature people, if the ban was very long ago or if you just were randomly accused.

Anyways guys, now let's go back to my *super unserious voice*

Can I say that I totally agree with you on the age front. I've met tons of people who I thought were like, 17 etc, and turned out to be like 10 or something. Mental maturity matters.

 

I honestly think age doesn't matter,
but we are looking for players who are more on the "Mature" side of things.
Players who will take things more seriously and that won't take rude remarks as a excuse of being angry and rude back.
For Example:
Player: "Your the worst staff member EVER!"
Staff: "I'M BETTER THEN YOU EVER WOULD BE YOU LITTLE *Cuss* BECAUSE YOU ARE A *Cuss*!!"

But if you show you won't outburst with anger, and that you are mature- but under-aged you might get accepted.

 

Yes, I have come across a large number of people who agree with me too, but are somehow too shy to say it full-frontal to staff.

Yes. Instead of age there should be some kind of test for your maturity.

 

Maybe a question of some sort and how people respond to it? Im not totally sure tbh. :I

 

Anything is better then restricting people who are mature to helper

We make a situation. Then you can check on the staff's grammar, reactions etc.
Out of that, you can make out how mature your staff is. Also, you should keep an eye at players who have applied, that way you can see their maturity aswell.

Ok, heres my honest opinion. Both sides have their goods and bads. First with olo's argument. I think that I agree with him on the age matter and kind of the previous bans issue. It's all about actions. We had some underage helpers on arcadia and they all did superb. A 10 year old can act like a person twice his age. Same on the flip, A 20 year old can act like a 10 year old. On the banning front, I do not think it matters how we acted on other servers. We could be perfect on one but stupid on another. But as long as we show we act with respect on Buildcraftia, I think that is what matters. But onto the other argument. I think it is important for us to state how long we have been playing minecraft. If we started 1 1/2 years ago, that shows that we are dedicated to the game and most likely, not a noob. And staff experience should also be stated as experience may be useful. All that being said, That is my honest opinion. I think that whatever opinion you have, SAY IT. Nothing will happen if you dont say anything. Its crucial to know peoples opinions so that we know how people feel about things. Even if you think your best friend on the server would disagree with you, speak up. Threads like this help buildcraftia improve as we know what to improve. I know this was a very long reply, but I had alot to say

Oh and, Minecraft Classic was released mid 2009 too I even played it back in the days.
