I'm concerned about politics at this age because i'm an LGBTQ+ minority who is concerned for my future. I'm scared because we actually elected this guy who did and believes in the above things. Also his VP supports electrocuting LGBTQ+ people until they're straight.

The fact is that he is xenophobic, homophobic, racist etc.; he poses a serious threat to the progress that the US has made over recent decades, so anyone who wants to defend Trump & argue that he's better than Clinton (those delusional people) need to defend his derogatory comments about women, Hispanics, African-Americans, Muslims and all the groups Trump has singled out in order to advance his campaign.

If any normal politician said the same things he did, they would have been out of the race immediately. Yet somehow, there's an exception when Trump does it, because Trump says Trump things; does Trump actions; thinks Trump things. None of this is okay.

I sincerely hope that President Trump is a different character to Candidate Trump. Jeremy is absolutely right: he will not fulfill his promises; he needs to learn to act like a statesman. People turned to Trump because they are tired of the same establishment bullsh*t (similar to Brexit) that always f*cks ordinary working- & middle-class Americans over. The irony is, that Trump will probably hurt ordinary Americans more than Clinton ever would (similar to Brexit).

His victory is laughable, as are his sympathisers, supporters and defenders. He really has no place in the White House, but that's what an out-of-touch Democratic Party has given the country. Democracy is still a precious thing and the result should be accepted, but don't let anyone slam you for complaining or protesting about Trump or about the means by which he gained the presidency.

Very disappointing that Republicans have gained control over the presidency, over Congress and can now create a conservative bent on the Supreme Court, because the toxicity of American conservatism & neoliberalism is what is hurting so many decent working people at the expense of the rich elite.

P.S. I've said it before and I'll say it again: reject anyone who acts as if 'oh everyone's become a politician' or 'don't talk about this it just causes trouble:' young people talking about politics is essential in order to engage the next generation of voters. Politics is meant to be controversial, because controversy causes discussion & discussion helps us reach conclusions and improve on our ideas & knowledge.

    Feel free to disagree.

I feel like there may be some hope, because my history teacher said that he acted somewhat like a gentleman after he won to Hilary. Not sure exactly if he was just happy at the time or if he really wants to be a good president. Otherwise he acted like a dick on his business show or whatever and I don't see much hope for him but the only thing we can do is be optimistic and hope he controls things responsibly.

I have read a couple things on twitter about black people being harassed because the bullies say now that trump is president they should be picking their slave numbers, which I think is horrible and utterly disgusting. Obviously, Trump hasn't set the right mindset for most people, while he was running but hopefully he clears things up in the future, or as soon as possible. If he doesn't then maybe he will be assassinated lmao i don't support killing ppl but just saying people won't stand for bs so

&& ik that if trump gets assassinated his vice-president (who is just as bad) will become president and probably get assassinated too !!!

I don't know anything about politics.
I just wanna say that he was just elected, let's not get into arguments before we actually get to see what he does as president.
Even though it's such a man like Trump, let's wait and judge him by his actions as president.
And yes, I know that his action during the campaigns are things to judge, but hey, when you're desperate, and against Hillary, weird things from all are expected.
    It's politics, American no less.

Alright, I've viewed this thread for a little bit, and I think it's time to voice my own opinion.

Firstly, I'd like to agree with Yva. This thread has nearly no point but to complain and bicker about the presidential election. Yes, I understand that Trump is a racist, sexist, etc all those things. However, there are some things to keep in mind:

    1) You can't do anything about it right now. Except for people like Tntdestroyr, AZZA, etc, pretty much nobody on here can vote. In addition, lots of people on this server aren't even living in the United States, so the effects of Donald Trump will be little to no impact on their daily life.

    2) How much does the president actually effect you? Think about it. What has President Obama done that directly effects you, straight from him to you. Most things go through Congress or the Senate and all that jazz, and even most of those are minor laws. Even further, again, how many of you actually live in the United States or a country that will be effected by the election? ( I do believe lots of other countries will be effected by the election, such as Russia, Mexico, etc)

    3) What can the president directly do to effect you? Again, most stuff has to go through Congress, The Supreme Court, or the Senate. Democracy is great in the way that we don't have a single person sending us into a nuclear war- Donald Trump can't start World War III on his own. There are hundreds of hoops to jump through, especially in a 4-8 year span.

Finally, I'd like to say that most of this is just the ramblings of a teenager. I know little to nothing about the politics and the way democracy functions, but I'm sick of people complaining about Donald Trump and saying the election is rigged. Believe it or not, real people actually voted for him, and I actually know some of those people.

Just because you don't agree with his views on most subjects doesn't mean nobody agrees.

I will say that his view on global warming and climate change is very ignorant though. "It's an expensive hoax" he says. Honestly, that's like saying "What if it's a lie and we make a better world for no reason!"

I honestly agree on a spiritual level with you. (besides the whole global warming thing, I don't really know much about it and I'd rather not learn about it either).

You're totally right though. He's been elected and there's nothing we can do about it. Protesting in the streets won't get us much of anywhere except for a waste of time. And, now that I comandeered someone elses laptop, I read a few of the other comments.

I partially agree with you, Phoenix. I agree that we should definitely discuss this. That we're the next voters in four year and the next four years of politics should matter to us.

But, to add on to what I was saying prior to this: we don't know exactly what he's going to do. And like Word said, it has to go through both the congress and the senate. Also I just realized the "s" key barely works on this laptop so I'm sorry for missing "s'." Anyway, a lot of the stuff said about either prior candidate are rumors. Some are inaccurate, and some are just straight up incorrect. If you hear that Trump hates muslims and mexicans, it was pulled out of context. I've actually seen reports where it says what he actually said. He said (I can't find the post because it's a link from facebook and my dad's office wifi blocks facebook so I'll paraphrase as best as possible) that we should temporarily block the incoming muslims until we know how to deal with the ISIS problem. I don't know exact wording and I'm bad at wording it so don't hold it against me but its something like what he said. It's not a stereotype, it's that ISIS can just as easily get in if we let all muslims in. Yeah, I agree they should let the muslims in but I also agree that I'd rather TEMPORARILY block them out until we get ISIS under control. He said about the mexicans that a third or something (again, can't remember exact words) commit crimes in america. So you want to let someone in who could potentially be a threat? Now, granted, I have some extremely nice mexican and muslim friends, but can't you also agree that it's scary to think how easy it is to let a person from ISIS into our country? Think about that for a minute.

So, yeah, you can think he's racist. You don't have to believe me and I accept that. I just keep getting asked why I'm a Trump supporter and I'm a strong believer in more things that Trump says than what Hillary says. I don't fully understand everything about politics yet, nor am I really excited to learn, but from what I've heard I'm a Trump supporter. And, yeah, my parents have a big impact on who I support. Both my mom and my brother voted for Trump. So it's a bit biased. But, I still know enough to know I support Trump more than Hillary.

This entire post from me was counterintuitive from my last post but now everyone can know why I support Trump. I want this whole election put behind us and I want us to think about how great of an outcome it can be instead of hoping he fails as a president so you can prove some point.
And, lastly, starting out any one of these posts to say it's okay to discuss politics with "Trump is a racist homophobe who shouldn't become president" is not exactly encouraging for anyone except for Hillary supporters. So, please, if you want to discuss it discuss it nicely.

"I hope Donald Trump is a good president. Wanting him to fail, is like wanting the pilot to crash the plan that we ALL are on. REMEMBER THAT" - @ClipperKyle on Twitter.

(Soz for double post but have to)

That statement is basically what every racists says to defend themselves lmao (Not saying you're a racist but idk). Just that statement, especially the 2nd part is kinda um not a very educated opinion. 1 person from ISIS right, the most amount of damage he could ever do would be like a couple hundred. (Not an ISIS expert soz) Also the Mexican and Muslim things Trump said weren't taken out of context, they were just blatantly xenophobic/racist which is completely unacceptable so if you agree with what he stands for I have 0% respect for you as a person. I also don't understand how AS A WOMAN you still support him?? Like "locker room talk" shit is bull that's sexual assault Mr. Trump. Also like I said before, Pence wants to/believes in electrocuting Gay people to turn them straight. That is fucked up on so many levels.

Anyways I don't like being serious but I can't stand for stupidity :)

Read the title. The title is called 'Trump' because we are talking/debating (etc) about Trump's election. Nobody's even talking about Pence. If you want to, that's honestly a new level of drama I'd rather not reach.

If anything, it's off topic so shut up about Pence.

    b) Pence is as relative to Trump as burgers are to McDonalds. so like it's not really off topic leeeeeeeeeeeel

    wat

I didn't view this thread as a 'let's stop Trump thread,' just merely a discussion thread, and I suggest everyone does the same. All we're doing is talking :D

I think the problem is that Trump and the media especially have blown things massively out of proportion, to the point where people have these irrational fears of Muslims, of immigrants etc, the result of which is that people think it's a reasonable suggestion to ban entire groups. I'd advise you not to fall for this rhetoric: it encourages us to create a scapegoat to blame all our problems on. The issue of radicalism is incredibly complex, too much so to explain here, but this unparalleled fear that radicals are the biggest risk to us is untrue. As such:

Just a thought experiment to encourage some more vivid discussion:

Last year (2015) in the United States, there were 372 mass shootings. Last year in the United Kingdom, there were 0 mass shootings (for the fifth year running).
From 2001-2013, 3,380 Americans were killed by terrorism. In the same period, 406,496 Americans were killed by firearms by other Americans.
The USA needs to ban all Americans from living in, or entering, the country, in order to adequately protect themselves.

The intention is to highlight how Trump's rhetoric only encourages ignorance over facts and division over unity. I honestly hope that he does a good (or at least adequate) job, solely for the sake of stability. If people want to complain or protest about Trump, then they have every right to do so under the 1st amendment (although I don't believe you should protest about the results that a democratic election gives you just because you don't like it) but I fear that Trump will simply be a puppet, where lots of individuals behind-the-scenes are making the big decisions anonymously (similar to Bush in '01-'09).

Okay, I already had a rant about this on Facebook earlier today, but basically, as long as everyone respects each other's opinions and debates in a manner that is not just saying "He is *insert some stereotypical thing*" or being rude, it's fine. Honestly, the United States is so divided over this election that it is going to take lots of respect from BOTH sides to try and mend it.
