A lot of people have been talking about whether we should do "Mod Applications" or "Mod Nominations" so I decided to make a Pros and Cons list of both to help everyone decide which is better. Mod Applications: Pros: Allows members to get more of a chance to be Mod Everyone gets to try to be a Mod Cons: A little formal (could also be a Pro) Mod Nominations: Pros: Lets the community vote More based off the community rather than staff Cons: Could be a popularity contest Members have less of a chance to be nominated These were all the ones I could think of but you could put some more Pros and Cons and I'll add it to the list! There's also a poll so people could vote!
I wouldn't say members have a less chance of being nominated... you just have to be active and friendly.
Meh, I just saw someone say it in chat and more likely big donators are going to be nominated (from my experience)
No... That isn't necessarily true. It's just that there aren't as many active members on, its mainly donators.
We stuck with mod moms cause everyone was crying that mod apps were based on staff favoritism as opposed to the actual contents of the app, which in some cases...they were. But in mod noms, friends can just vote other friends, regardless if they think they would be good for the job or not. So both ways hava their flaws in the way people get a chance to step up as staff, but I think we should stick with mod nominations from now on because it does get a lot of player involvement which is one of BC's desires. Also, I would not want to have another server rebellion like the one that happened about 2 months ago either.
I honestly think the noms are more biased because when you get down to it, democracies don't work well on a minecraft server like this. When a lot of the players are younger, they tend to vote for whoever they know or like instead of who actually deserves it. I don't think applications were too biased because I wasn't very popular on the server and didn't know any admins but still got accepted so who knows. Whatever they do there's going to be upsides and downsides so what can you do?
Guys, we don't want to have a bobby incident again. Please just stop it beyond this line ; There isn't much to talk about mod noms or apps, but both the staff and the community has decided that mod noms are the better of the two, even if it has its ups and downs. ---------------------------------------------------
I really think noms get too bias, (sorry if I used that word in the wrong way) as people mainly vote for players who have been on the server for a long time and have donated a lot, so a non donator / low rank who has been on for a short time could be a better staff member than someone who's spent their life savings on donations for the server and has been on the server since the day it was created, but the big time donater would get more votes, even though the member would make the better staff member. So really, I just wonder wether in the noms it's the people who would make the best staff who would get voted for or the more popular players.
Popular players know how to interact with the community well. That means they will certainly not be a bad staff member. Community interaction is more then half of your role in the staff team.
I agree that nominations can be a little bias. I say we should have it be a pattern of Mod noms and then next staff season mod applications so everyone get what they want
Nah. Don't get me wrong staff apps have picked up extremely good staff before, but occasionally would pick up someone that doesn't exactly work to standards. In fact I do prefer them over noms but for the sake of the server I would just stick with noms for now.
Okay so we got mod noms because of the player/staff rebellion back when the bobby incident started. And now you want to undo mod noms after having 2 of them? The only thing you're achieving is pissing of the same players that rebelled previously.
